Whew! Why am I such an opinionated idiot? Well, here goes me again…
The change… any change for the betterment of mankind starts within the self. No place else. People just don’t grasp the meaning of rational selfishness. Instead of pointing fingers at our neighbors let’s just be selfish enough to find our own faults and do something about it rather than laughing at some other fellow’s shortcomings.
Anyway, there is no absolute BEST for the human standard. We constantly evolve. What may be best for now could be the worst in the next 10 years or so.
It’s an effort to try to find the best solution for the betterment of humankind. How nice to hear isn’t it? But what does humankind need? The whole of humankind is even incomprehensible to start with. So how can one comprehend what is best for the vastness of entire human race? Much more it’s variety in culture, belief, perception, wealth, politics.
One solution could be plausible in the urban setting of the great Dubai nowadays, but would that same solution be applicable to the suffering Ethiopians and Africans?
I am not being pessimistic here. I just think the best solution is not to idealistically change or make better the entire human race. I think ONE simple move can make a difference. I think that simple move starts with each and every one of us, specially as architects.
We help build an environment. We help shape the world.
What better thing to do than to love our work and make each the best that we can. Let’s not be content with mediocre projects. Let’s try our best to make it a little better even one at a time - pace by pace.
Think about it, if you and I are making it better for each of our clients, how many now are we? How many living environments now are we starting to make better? And how many architects are there in the entire planet? That entirety started with just but one. One you. One me.
With this kind of attitude, I think we’re already making a big deal in the improvement of humankind.

in a fantasy world, nothing is impossible. everything is concievable.
yet there is no such thing as “ultimate”. it only happens for a time… then some new things starts to pop up.
one thing though that made humans the dominant species of the earth, is our ability to adopt to the environment we inhabit. as the world change around us, somehow we always manage to create new “things”, whatever they are - to contemplate and compensate for our needs at the time.
what i believe in, is that no matter how far the world lead us, humans will always find solutions enough for him to live through his days… and a day.
the next generation creates something new for them.

live long Architect Lositano! you always have something really good to expound about…
just thinking about the thought…how would it be like, the “utopian land” where everything is “made thru Architecture”? the “ultimate place” would it be really that desirable for humans to live? would it really be beneficial for the environment for sustainability, et al…
Assalamu alaikom from your friendly neighbor, KSA.
